About The Position

Capitol Dental is seeking an Expanded Practice Hygienist (EPDH) for a community outreach role. This position offers a flexible schedule and supports professional growth. The EPDH will serve as a primary care provider, working independently in various community locations to deliver comprehensive hygiene services, including assessments, preventive treatments, intra-oral photos, and X-rays. Utilizing telehealth technology, the EPDH will collaborate with a collaborating dentist for chart reviews, diagnoses, and treatment plans for restorative needs. The EPDH may also prescribe antibiotics under guidance and can be trained in restorative procedures. This role requires a high level of accountability, organizational skills, and communication. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, independent, and proactive in managing their schedule and patient base to ensure continuous access to care, allowing both the EPDH and the dentist to practice at the highest scope of their licensure. The EPDH will act as the Oral Health Champion in medical clinics, hospitals, and community settings, collaborating with medical providers for integrated oral and primary care. Responsibilities also include administrative tasks such as insurance verification and using EHR (dental and medical software), Word, and Excel. Marketing, education, and professional collaboration within community settings are key, involving educating patients, colleagues, and stakeholders on oral health, and working to recruit and schedule patients for dental services.

Requirements

  • Accredited Hygiene Technical School or College
  • Current applicable State Dental License (or the ability to acquire one by the time of employment)
  • Oregon EPDH license
  • Other licenses/certifications such as CPR, local certified anesthesia

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Oral Health Champion in the medical clinic/hospital/multiple community setting.
  • Collaborate with medical providers to provide close integration of oral health and primary care.
  • Perform administrative tasks including insurance verification and using EHR (dental and medical software), Word/Excel.
  • Engage in marketing, education, professional collaboration, and networking within community settings.
  • Educate patients, colleagues, and community stakeholders on the importance of oral health.
  • Work to educate, recruit, and schedule patients to receive dental services.
  • Complete all hygiene services, intra-oral photos, x-rays, an assessment, and preventive treatment.
  • Use state of the art tele-health technology to communicate and collaborate with the dentist.
  • Prescribe antibiotics when necessary, and with guidance from collaborative dentist to help stabilize a patient until they can be seen by a dentist.
  • Scoop and fill (restorative procedures) may be part of the role.
