This role assists dentists in providing dental care, maintaining dental equipment, supplies, and clinical areas, and ensuring OSHA compliance.

Requirements

  • EFDA accreditation and license
  • License recertification every two years
  • Radiology certification; recertified every four years
  • CPR certified; recertified every two years
  • Child abuse clearance; re-checked every two years
  • Attend fraud, waste, abuse and cultural competency classes every year
  • Knowledge and familiarity with dental and medical terminology
  • English proficiency required

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and prepare patients for dental treatment.
  • Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
  • Take prescribed radiographs (x-rays).
  • Review health and dental histories with patients.
  • Take patient’s blood pressure.
  • Place restorative material after tooth preparation by the dentist.
  • Place sealants, polish teeth, and apply fluoride varnish as directed by the dentist.
  • Make notes in the dental chart, such as chief complaint and blood pressure readings.
  • Prepare the operatory for the procedure.
  • Assist the dentist in performing four-handed dentistry following established Policies and Protocols.
  • Place and remove rubber dams and matrices (Under Direct Supervision).
  • Place and contour amalgam, composite, and other restorative material (Under Direct Supervision).
  • Place dental sealants (Under Direct Supervision).
  • Apply fluoride treatments and polish teeth (Under Direct Supervision).
  • Provide patients with necessary post-operative or home care instructions.
  • Complete the patient visit by escorting them to the check-out desk.
  • Remove all disposable barriers and instruments after each visit.
  • Use proper pre-cleaning and disinfecting procedures for all surfaces and supplies.
  • Replace all barriers in the operatory and set up instruments for the next patient.
  • Maintain dental equipment and report any necessary repairs to the Dental PM.
  • Ensure dental supplies are stocked in proper areas (operatory and lab).
  • Clean and sterilize dental equipment after every patient visit.
  • Maintain sterilization equipment.
  • Restock and pull supply tags for dental orders, giving supply tags to the Dental PM.
  • Maintain dental radiograph sensors and machine.
  • Pour impressions.
  • Track dental laboratory cases and contact dental labs as needed.
  • Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions as directed.
  • Assist as an interpreter for dental providers as needed.
  • Assist the front desk during times of under-staffing.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
