About The Position

HealthNet is seeking an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join their team. In this role, you will perform placement and finishing of dental restorations, prepare operatories, assist during clinical care, observe and document patient conditions, take x-rays, perform lab functions, and manage airways during anesthesia/sedation procedures. You will also maintain patient records and assist the dentist with various tasks. This is a full-time position with a specific weekly schedule. HealthNet is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessible, quality healthcare services to individuals in Indianapolis and Bloomington, IN.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Completion of radiology course or accredited dental assisting program.
  • Maintain a DANB certification.
  • X-ray certification.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Detailed knowledge of different instruments, and knowledge of material requirements for each procedure.
  • 1-2 years of experience or formal training as a dental assistant.
  • Ability to work with medically, physically, and/or mentally compromised patients.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective customer service and communication skills.
  • Appreciation and understanding of diversity and multicultural environment.
  • Flexible availability, highly subject to travel and assist other Health Center Locations.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to experience repeated and prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending and squatting is required.
  • Ability to lift, push, and or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight is required.
  • Able to be involved in degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping; as well as abilities of repeated bending, stooping and squatting.
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight up to 20-30 pounds is a necessary function of this position.
  • Must be able to position and move patients following safety standards.
  • Able to perform duties during periods of varied and/or prolonged work hours.
  • Must have good eyesight with or without correction (20/30).
  • Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Perform placement and finishing of dental restorations such as fillings and sealants.
  • Make temporary crowns and bridges.
  • Prepare the operatory and/or operating room work area with appropriate set up for treatment.
  • Escort patients to designated clinical area, complete intake assessment, and assist during clinical care.
  • Perform coronal polishing and/or application of fluoride.
  • Observe, document, and communicate patient conditions with providers for initial patient assessment.
  • Take x-rays and review the patient's health history.
  • Perform dental lab functions as assigned.
  • Perform airway management and observe patient physiological status during anesthesia/sedation procedures.
  • Accurately complete and assist dentist in maintaining chart for patient records.
  • Assist other Health Center Locations if home location dentist is unavailable.
