About The Position

Big Smiles, a school-based mobile dental practice, is seeking a full-time Expanded Duties Dental Assistant in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and surrounding areas. The role provides dental care to underserved children at their schools through mobile dental clinics. The work takes place on a school-day schedule, averaging approximately 6–7 hours per day, generally between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with evenings, weekends, and summers off. The position involves daily local travel to school sites and work in varied school-based environments using portable dental equipment and digital radiography.

Smile Programs is a nationwide in-school dental program that partners with licensed dental professionals to provide preventive and restorative care to children at schools or in self-contained mobile dental facilities. Its portable equipment can transform school spaces into functional dental offices, with the goal of delivering care with minimal disruption to the school routine. The organization operates in 20 states and partners with more than 8,000 school districts.

Requirements

• Working experience as an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA).
• Current CPR/BLS card.
• Experience with digital X-ray imaging.
• Valid driver license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
• Ability to work well with children.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; be organized and detail-oriented; and multitask.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for setup and takedown.
• X-ray certification.
• Sealant certification.
• Coronal polishing certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide dental assisting services during mobile dental clinics.
• Perform digital X-ray imaging.
• Maintain patient records and charting.
• Set up, break down, and sterilize equipment.
• Travel daily to and from school sites.
