About The Position

Sotheby's is seeking Temporary Event Staff to support its Luxury Week, a premier high jewelry and timepiece exhibition event. This role is crucial for delivering a seamless, high-touch client experience and supporting the handling and presentation of exceptional, high-value pieces. Candidates must be available for specific event periods in November or December and commit to the entire schedule for their selected period. The role involves being the first point of contact for clients, providing language support, relaying information between clients and specialists, and translating high-level exhibition details. Responsibilities include maintaining the security and careful handling of high-value items, providing onsite support during client-facing periods, partnering with internal teams to facilitate client interactions, assisting with property release, maintaining a professional presence, adhering to security and dress code guidelines, and participating in pre-event training.

Requirements

  • Ability to create a premier client experience in any environment.

  • Previous experience in client service, luxury, or hospitality-driven industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a pleasant client service-oriented attitude.
  • Proven experience employing problem-solving skills when dealing with internal and external clients.
  • Team player with a positive working rapport with colleagues.
  • Ability to stand for entire shift required.
  • Appropriate professional attire required at all times during working hours.
  • Candidates must be available to work all scheduled days for one of the following event periods: November 19, 20, 23, and 24 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, OR December 2 through December 8 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day.
  • Candidates must be able to commit to the entire schedule for their selected event period.

  • Prior experience in high jewelry/luxury timepieces a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for clients in person.
  • Assist Client Services staff with language support.
  • Relay information between clients and specialists.
  • Translate and share high-level information on the exhibition.
  • Maintain careful handling and security of all items, adhering to strict protocols for high-value assets.
  • Provide onsite support during dealer view and client-facing periods, ensuring a polished and seamless client experience.
  • Partner with internal teams to facilitate client interactions, including assisting with inquiries and directing clients appropriately.
  • Assist with the release of property to clients and dealers, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and compliance with procedures.
  • Maintain a professional presence at all times, representing the Sotheby’s brand standards in a high-touch, luxury environment.
  • Adhere to all security requirements, including background/credit check protocols and coordination with onsite security teams.
  • Follow strict dress code and conduct guidelines appropriate for a luxury client-facing environment.
  • Participate in required pre-event training (webinar or on-site) and comply with all event procedures.

Benefits

  • Proposed base hourly rate: $23.00 - $25.00
