About The Position

The Exhibit Maintenance Technician handles the timely completion of exhibit repairs and maintenance at the Saint Louis Science Center. This is a critical role within the exhibits department to ensure active exhibits are always in full operation.

Requirements

  • High school graduate and 1 year experience in a broad range of carpentry, museum preparatory training or equivalent education and experience.
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge with a variety of hand tools, power tools, saws, routers, drills, and other shop machinery.
  • Capable of following department procedures for exhibit maintenance and work order records.
  • Attention to detail to ensure all work is completed with expert craftsmanship.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Inventive and collaborative spirit, initiative to both thrive in teams and to work alone without direct supervision and handle prompt completion of assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the required inventory of all exhibit parts to ensure the fast turn-around of interactive repairs, resulting in little or no down time for positive guest experiences.
  • Monitors exhibits for repairs needed and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, minimize exhibit downtime.
  • Contribute to a highly collaborative team environment of exhibit creation, improvement, and maintenance.
  • Must demonstrate versatile skills and may be called upon to make props and mounts and install or paint exhibits.
  • Maintain an orderly shop by making sure tools and equipment are in good working order and that proper care and safety protocols are in practice.
  • Assist with installation of exhibits.
  • Other related duties as needed or assigned.
