About The Position

To be fully engaged in providing No Harm / Quality, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by servicing the needs of the members through orientations, education, instruction, and evaluation in the area of health and fitness.

Requirements

  • Certified by a Pro-Health recognized certification agency or Bachelor’s in Exercise Science (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, NASM).
  • Good personality and enjoyment working with different populations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Current American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR & AED program Completion Card prior to start date and maintenance.
  • Capable of standing for long periods of time.
  • Must practice a Healthy lifestyle.
  • Capable of making safe and proper judgments.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Capable of performing multiple concurrent tasks while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Able to interact with a variety of individuals and personalities.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be able to demonstrate (according to department standards) the ability to handle an emergency code.
  • Must show the ability to handle the code alone if necessary.
  • Score in the 90th percentile on the orientation survey card.
  • Cannot sit in front of members unless working with a member.
  • Capable of lifting in excess of 50lbs.
  • Relaxation breaks are optional and not required by law to give for associates that work a minimum of 4 hours.
  • They must get permission from the Lead and or Supervisor and are only permitted if the work load is slow and does not affect customer care or safety. 10 minutes only.

Responsibilities

  • Providing new members orientation including teaching/explaining exercise principles and guidelines, set-up and demonstration on all types of exercise equipment, proper lifting techniques, explaining heart rate range, age predicted and RPE, and explaining the FITT principle to exercise.
  • Demonstrating the ability to handle an emergency code according to department standards.
  • Being competent in the handling of a real code in regard to BLS and the use of the AED and oxygen.
  • Assisting with wellness screenings.
  • Opening and closing the facility.
  • Monitoring blood pressures.
  • Circulating the Heart Rate monitor every 15 minutes while working the Cardiovascular area.
  • Reviewing all members workout cards while at assigned station.
  • Cleaning designated area daily.
  • Checking and arranging equipment positioning throughout the day.
  • Assisting in maintaining the pool area, picking up and cleaning when necessary.
  • Assisting in maintaining storage rooms, pump rooms and equipment rooms.
  • Assisting at the front desk when necessary.
  • Performing locker room checks every hour during designated shift, including picking up soiled towels, exchanging bins, checking and replacing soap and paper products, wiping down counter tops, maintaining and cleaning showers and spas, filling eucalyptus in the sauna, and vacuuming carpet when necessary.
  • Washing laundry and folding towels when necessary.
  • Ensuring everyone’s safety in the locker rooms and enforcing policies.
  • Conducting facility tours according to scripted guidelines.
  • Greeting all members working out on the floor or leaving.
  • Assisting members at all times and remaining in assigned areas.
  • Correcting bad form and giving suggestions to improve workouts.
  • Putting up at least 1 fitness article per year for members benefit.
  • Conducting Wellness Talks (FT: 6 per year, PT: 3 per year, PD: 1 per year).
  • Maintaining equipment by keeping them clean and in good working order to prolong life.
  • Troubleshooting maintenance issues and reporting any maintenance issues that cannot be fixed by staff.
  • Efficient use of cleaning and exercise supplies.
  • Adhering to allotted FTEs and not clocking in prior to 6 minutes before their regularly scheduled shift, and not exceeding 40 hours in one pay week.
  • Working a minimum of 36 hours for FT or 20 hours for PT.
  • Taking meal breaks as required for shifts over 5.5 hours, clocking out and in for a minimum of 28 minutes.
  • Taking optional relaxation breaks (10 minutes) with permission from Lead/Supervisor if workload allows and does not affect customer care or safety.
