Position Purpose: Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor – Teaching (non-tenure track) with a specialization in Exercise and Sport Science. Program Area: B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science & M.S. in Exercise and Sport Science. Term: Full-time, 9-month, 2 years The Division of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Studies in the College of Education at Wayne State University seeks a full-time, 9-month Assistant Professor – Teaching (non-tenure track) with specialization in Exercise and Sport Science to teach courses, advise students, and provide service to the program/division/college/university.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Performance, Human Performance, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years of university teaching experience.
  • Evidence of effective university teaching experience, including face-to-face instruction using best practices in course delivery.
  • Evidence of effective online teaching experience, including course development, instructional design, and online pedagogy.
  • Evidence of effective use of the Canvas or related learning management system.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students in coursework, internships, and career preparation.
  • Proven ability to interact and collaborate effectively with diverse groups of colleagues and students.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as CSCS, NSCA, ACSM, or other nationally recognized credentials.
  • Evidence of teaching experience across the sub-disciplines of Exercise and Sport Science.
  • Experience integrating technology, performance assessment, data analytics, wearable technologies, or applied laboratory experiences into teaching.
  • Experience working with collegiate, secondary school, professional, fitness and performance organizations, or corporate wellness settings.
  • Evidence of leadership in collaborative initiatives and program operations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online courses in the Exercise and Sport Science undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students related to coursework, internships, and career preparation.
  • Assist with the WSU Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES) accreditation systems.
  • Coordinate undergraduate-level initiatives and programs (i.e., Honors option, student organization, professional development activities, student success initiatives, etc.).
  • Assist divisional and program faculty and administrators with student recruitment and retention initiatives, program assessment, establishing field/practicum experience sites, and other duties required to meet organizational needs.
  • Participate in service activities that support the Division, College, University, and profession.
