About The Position

NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital is seeking an Exercise Physiologist for their Cardiac Rehabilitation department. This role involves evaluating, planning, and developing individualized exercise prescriptions for patients undergoing cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation. The Exercise Physiologist will assist patients in reaching their maximum functional level and adapting to their capabilities. Responsibilities also include participating in departmental operations, performance improvement activities, budget formulation, ensuring accurate patient charges, and adhering to infection control and safety programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in exercise physiology, exercise science, physical therapy, respiratory therapy or other health related field
  • Possess current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Possess ability to identify cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Possess ability to identify lung sounds
  • Possess experience in operating a cardiopulmonary rehab telemetry system
  • Possess knowledge of exercise equipment operations/exercise prescription
  • Possess ability to take blood pressure and pulse manually
  • Possess ability to interact and communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians, Cardio pulmonary department and other hospital departments
  • All roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP. NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation, planning, and development of accurate individualized exercise prescriptions including updates to more intense MET levels with physician approval.
  • Assisting patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
  • Participating in operational aspects of the department and maintaining performance improvement activities.
  • Providing input in formulating budget.
  • Ensuring that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
  • Participating in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety, and fire safety programs.
