About The Position

The Exercise Physiologist performs a variety of non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic exams and monitors inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. This role involves providing care including the development, implementation, and evaluation of exercise programs for cardiac patients in phase 2 and phase 3 of cardiac rehabilitation. The Exercise Physiologist works collaboratively with all members of the patient's care team to ensure services are consistent with post-operative and/or post-hospitalization care. They evaluate and revise the plan of care as needed in collaboration with the RN and physician when necessary, and develop and advance the patient's exercise program based on the physiological and electrocardiographic response to exercise. Additionally, the role includes providing health education and teaching for patients and families, completing required feedback and communication to the patient and healthcare team including EMR documentation and reports concerning education, exercise progression, exercise treatment, and monitored physiological and vital responses of the patient. The position also assists with scheduling and billing of cardiac rehab services and precepts nursing, exercise physiology, and nutrition students as assigned to the program. The Exercise Physiologist is also responsible for conducting stress testing as needed and accurately interpreting clinical data, seeking medical evaluation of such data. Department-specific functions include conducting initial patient appointments, performing patient heart disease risk factor assessments, coordinating patient care plans for outpatient cardiac rehab (phases II & III), coordinating patient exercise class schedules, monitoring patients on telemetry during exercise sessions, leading patients through exercise prescriptions, assisting patients with exercise equipment, providing education to patients to support risk factor modification, reporting adverse events to ordering providers, monitoring patients during exercise stress tests, and applying ambulatory holter and event monitors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Management and organization ability essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to make necessary decisions, initiate and implement policies and procedures.
