The Exercise Physiologist utilizes scientific rationale to design, implement, and supervise exercise programming for individuals with chronic diseases, conditions, or physical limitations. This role involves providing physical conditioning, reconditioning, risk factor reduction, and education through the prescription, conduction, and evaluation of cardiovascular and metabolic exercise programs under the supervision of a physician. Key responsibilities include researching physiological adaptations to physical activity, understanding how chronic diseases impact individuals, and analyzing patient medical history to assess risks and determine optimal exercise regimens. The physiologist performs fitness and stress tests using medical equipment, monitors vital health indicators such as blood pressure, oxygen usage, and heart rhythm, and develops personalized exercise programs. Additionally, the role involves conducting investigations into muscular activity responses, performing dietary intake assessments with counseling, assisting with weight management, diabetes management, and tobacco cessation programs, and developing risk reduction and behavior modification plans. Depending on the location, the position may also involve performing 12 lead EKGs/monitors.
