About The Position

This position involves conducting and monitoring cardiac stress testing, including treadmill and pharmacologic stress exams, in accordance with established protocols. The role also includes performing EKGs and applying cardiac monitors, initiating and maintaining intravenous (IV) access for pharmacologic stress testing and contrast administration, and continuously assessing patient response during testing to ensure patient safety. The Exercise Physiologist will prepare patients for procedures, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and document test results. Additionally, the role requires maintaining and calibrating equipment, adhering to regulatory requirements, supporting efficient patient flow, and providing compassionate patient care. Participation in quality improvement initiatives and maintaining certifications are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an exercise science or a related field (e.g. Kinesiology or Physical Education).
  • Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment in hospital and outpatient setting.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and ECG interpretation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (within 6 months of hire.)
  • Experience in cardiac stress testing or clinical cardiology setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and monitor cardiac stress testing, including treadmill and pharmacologic stress exams, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform EKGs and application of cardiac monitors (Zio, Holter) according to department protocol.
  • Initiate and maintain intravenous (IV) access for pharmacologic stress testing and contrast administration, following safety and infection control standards.
  • Continuously assess patient response during testing (heart rate, blood pressure, ECG changes, symptoms) and respond appropriately to ensure patient safety.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining test protocols, obtaining relevant history, and ensuring proper electrode placement and equipment setup.
  • Collaborate closely with cardiologists, sonographers, and nursing staff to support high-quality cardiac imaging studies.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate abnormal or critical findings to the supervising physician.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of test results and patient data in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain and calibrate stress testing equipment, ensuring functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, accreditation, and infection control requirements.
  • Support efficient patient flow and scheduling to optimize lab productivity and minimize delays.
  • Provide compassionate patient care, ensuring comfort, understanding, and safety throughout the testing process.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain required certifications (e.g., ACLS, BLS).
