Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter to join our team. This individual will play a key role in driving the company's growth and profitability. This position requires assessing the acceptability of business opportunities in line with company guidelines, including reviewing and pricing new submissions, renewal business, and endorsements. The successful candidates will leverage their expertise, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset to develop strong broker relationships and grow their book of business. Our Executive Underwriters work closely with experienced practice leaders, managers, and executives, supported by an extensive product range, ample capacity, and the empowerment needed to succeed. In collaboration with colleagues and management, they deliver value-added expertise and exceptional service to our broker partners.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in commercial lines underwriting or brokering
  • A Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and/or Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation(s) or actively pursuing
  • A valid Broker license or ability to qualify for one within 90 days of employment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with legal structures in Canada
  • Existing industry relationships that can be leveraged to attract business opportunities and grow portfolio
  • Ability to lead business development meetings with brokers to strengthen relationships and prospect for new opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Perform risk analysis using internal and external data resources for quoting, negotiating, and authorizing renewals and new business opportunities
  • Pursue and achieve production targets
  • Travel occasionally to meet with brokers and promote business opportunities
  • Develop and support professional business partnerships with brokers through prompt service, proactive communication, and solution-oriented problem solving
  • Lead business development meetings with brokers to strengthen relationships and prospect for new opportunities
  • Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority, independently engaging with brokers to clarify requests or seek missing information
  • Make decisions based on imperfect information
  • Communicate decisions and respond to requests promptly and professionally
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including attending industry seminars and networking events
  • Negotiate coverage with brokers within delegated authority parameters
  • Manage, strengthen, and grow a book of profitable business
  • Maintain compliance with established corporate guidelines and delegated authority parameters
  • Work independently to meet deadlines and accomplish goals
  • Take ownership of work-related activities and follow through on commitments
  • Deal effectively with pressure, maintain a positive outlook, and recover quickly from setbacks
  • Prioritize and complete tasks within allocated timeframes
  • Take responsibility for learning and implementing new ideas, methods, and technologies
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)

  • Mentor and train less experienced team members
