Our Home Office Construction team is seeking an Executive Underwriter to join our high-performing team working with large accounts, complex wrap-ups, and joint venture projects countrywide. This opportunity would focus on and be responsible for growing and developing our Southern California region while also maintaining a profitable book of business through effective underwriting decision making, mutually beneficial customer/broker relationships, and application of underwriting tools, systems, and expert resources. The role involves guiding and mentoring less-experienced underwriters in their respective areas of expertise, including regular employee coaching and feedback to the manager on the employee's progress, and participating in regular projects that further the goals of the department and the company. Key aspects include Risk Selection, where the underwriter reviews, rates, underwrites, evaluates, or assesses the business applying for insurance by qualifying accounts, identifying, selecting and assessing risks, determining the premium, policy terms and conditions, obtaining approvals, creating/presenting the proposal to the agent/broker, and successfully negotiating deals. The position also focuses on Agent/Broker Relationships, demonstrating a high level of responsiveness and support for Key Agents and Brokers objectives, establishing and maintaining successful relationships to facilitate marketing of products through responsive service, site visits, in-person renewal meetings, or enhanced knowledge of their customers' businesses, and developing a strong personal brand to build and maintain a long-term quality pipeline. Portfolio Management is a critical component, involving managing a sizable and complex book of business by analyzing the portfolio, identifying areas of opportunity for improved growth, profit and diversification, and executing marketing plans to increase market share by making marketing calls to preferred brokers to market and cross-market, as well as providing input to the development of marketing plans, product analysis, services, geographic focus, and broker intelligence. Accurate Documenting the Deal is required, ensuring files reflect a solid thought process and decision-making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs, and referrals that comply with state regulations, letter of authority, and underwriting guidelines. Finally, the role encompasses Leadership, formally guiding, mentoring, and coaching underwriters and account analysts in both technical and professional skills, demonstrating multiple areas of expertise, and providing regular updates to other underwriters.
