About The Position

Kendal at Oberlin is a full-service life plan community, which primarily serves older adults in the Quaker tradition. Residents are assured a lifetime of healthcare including short- and long-term nursing services, memory care and assisted living. Equally important, residents enjoy an independent, enriching living experience. Kendal at Oberlin's Dining Services is seeking an experienced Executive Sous Chef for a full time position. The Executive Sous Chef will assist the Executive Chef in leading the culinary team in creating, preparing and executing a high quality and distinctive food service and product. Additionally, the Sous Chef will demonstrate excellent culinary and leadership skills to fully support and continually improve the Kendal Dining Program.

Requirements

  • Ability to work as an integral part of the culinary management team.
  • Must have experience as a Sous or Executive Sous Chef.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be innovative and willing to take initiative.
  • Possess high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift weights of up to 60 pounds.
  • Stand and/or walk for 75% of the day.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all aspects of meal production to assure meals are prepared as planned.
  • Conduct daily safety and sanitation walk-throughs and taking initiative and control of problem situations.
  • Identify needs and quantity required on the daily production sheets.
  • Follow proper food-handling techniques at all times.
  • Monitor and log food temperatures.
  • Complete EcoSure and food safety audits as needed.
