The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 176,000 apartments and a citywide Section 8 leased housing program that serves over 200,000 additional tenants. NYCHA’s mission is to provide quality housing for New Yorkers that is sustainable, inclusive, and safe, while fostering opportunities for economic mobility. The scope of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) requires a Deputy Chief of Staff who combines strategic thinking with the ability to quickly build subject matter expertise. Under the supervision and direction of the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff will assist in the supervision of all operations of NYCHA. This will include assisting the CEO and the Chief of Staff in the planning and execution of the Authority’s strategic priorities, as well as assisting with management and oversight of the Executive Team and Senior Staff. The Deputy Chief of Staff will also manage at least one staff member. The Deputy Chief of Staff role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, comfort working with data, external affairs acumen, and the ability to drive coordination across teams and departments. The ideal candidate will bring experience in NYC government and familiarity with housing policy, operations, stakeholder engagement, capital programs, and/or public sector procurement. They should be able to navigate complex organizations and build alignment across diverse stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to public service and public housing, with a focus on building trust with residents, advocates, and staff. Strong interpersonal, communication, and execution skills are essential.
