About The Position

The Mental Health & Recovery Board (MH&R) of Portage County seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization in planning, funding, and monitoring mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, recovery, and support services for Portage County residents. This position works closely with staff, community partners, and government officials to advance behavioral health priorities. The ideal candidate is an experienced visionary leader with strong management, strategic planning, communication, and public administration skills. They must be able to manage sensitive issues, build partnerships, deliver presentations, use data to guide decisions, and adapt to ever to the ever-changing behavioral health landscape. Candidates must have comprehensive knowledge of behavioral health systems and evidence-based practices with at least five years of senior management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as chief executive officer of the MH&R Board with hiring, management of staff, consultation, and strategic planning responsibilities.
  • Maintain collaborative relations with contract agencies and provides leadership for strategic direction of behavioral health services so they are aligned with community needs and provide exceptional care.
  • Prepares and directs preparation of correspondence, presentations, reports, policy statements, and provides information on program and policies to the Board, government officials and the general public.
  • Coordinates and monitors personnel and fiscal services of the Board, oversees budget preparation and administration, and takes responsibility for program development and grant development.
  • Represents the Board with the State Board Association, State departments, multi-county collaboratives and local government officials, is an ever-present leader in the office and community, and travels as necessary.
  • Provides guidance to the Board of Directors and its Committees based on in-depth knowledge of the providers, program audits/outcomes, community relationships, and current state of behavioral health.
  • Represents the MH&B Board and advocates for and participates in community activities to such as Family & Children First Council, Portage County. Guardianship Board.
  • Mentors and develops board staff according to their individual needs, career goals, and needs of the organization.
