About The Position

The Executive Director (ED) will lead Pennsylvania Voice, advancing the mission and vision of the organization. The ED will provide visionary and operational leadership, overseeing fundraising, partnerships, public engagement, organizational strategy, internal operations, and staff development. This role requires political acumen, coalition-building expertise, and experience leading a growing organization, ensuring Pennsylvania Voice remains a trusted and influential voice for democracy, equity, and community power. The ED reports directly to the Board of Directors. The ED will play a critical role in navigating complex political and coalition dynamics across Pennsylvania while aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals.

Requirements

  • Senior leadership experience setting and executing strategy in a political, advocacy, or civic engagement context, including navigating complex or changing environments
  • Experience leading or coordinating coalitions, alliances, or multi-organization initiatives, including navigating competing priorities and complex stakeholder dynamics.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts or institutional funding and managing donor relationships over time.
  • Understanding of Pennsylvania’s political and civic landscape.
  • Experience managing senior teams and overseeing organizational operations, including budgeting, planning, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Experience working within or across 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), PAC, and/or multi-entity organizational structures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and economic justice, with experience working alongside communities most impacted by civic inequities.

Responsibilities

  • Advance Pennsylvania Voice’s mission and strategic plan, ensuring alignment with values of equity, inclusion, and collective power.
  • Support the Leadership Team and collaborate with staff to ensure clarity of direction, transparency, and shared accountability.
  • Oversee long range organizational planning and decision making ensuring strategy is responsive to changing political and civic conditions.
  • Lead the annual budget process and ensure responsible fiscal stewardship.
  • Represent Pennsylvania Voice to the Board of Directors; share responsibility for board relations, communications, and development.
  • Lead organizational risk management, crisis response, and major operational decisions.
  • Lead external engagement with statewide and national partner organizations, funders, policymakers, and allies.
  • Serve as a public spokesperson for Pennsylvania Voice, representing the organization in media, at events, and in key advocacy spaces.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the Pennsylvania political and civic landscape to guide organizational strategy.
  • Convene partners to develop shared priorities, coordinate campaigns, and advance democracy initiatives.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of Pennsylvania Voice’s annual fundraising strategy, ensuring a diversified funding base including foundations, individuals, and special events.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with institutional and individual donors, building long-term partnerships that sustain organizational growth.
  • Identify and secure diverse revenue streams, including foundation grants, major gifts, and special initiatives.
  • Review and interpret financial data and forecasts prepared by an external financial consultant, using this information to guide strategic decisions and communicate key insights to the Board and stakeholders.
  • Provide input and strategic guidance on the development of financial processes and systems, ensuring they align with Pennsylvania Voice’s strategic goals.
  • Make informed organizational decisions in close coordination with an external financial consultant and internal leadership, ensuring financial considerations are fully integrated into strategic planning and execution.
  • Partner closely with Development and external financial consultant to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet annual budget needs.
  • Serve as the organization’s ambassador with both funders and the Board, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment between financial health and mission impact.
  • Oversee daily operations, including HR, compliance, IT, and administrative functions.
  • Lead organizational culture initiatives to ensure equity, inclusivity, and collaboration.
  • Oversee organizational development and professional development systems for staff support.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and financial regulations.
  • Strengthen internal systems, structures, and processes to support a growing and increasingly complex organization.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of Pennsylvania Voice’s programs in Civic Engagement, Voting Rights & Access, and Reflective Democracy.
  • Partner with Deputy Executive Director of Partnerships and Programs to ensure high-quality delivery and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Oversee internal systems for tracking progress, outcomes, and impact.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to align program priorities with external opportunities and partner needs.
