About The Position

The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Administration Division is recruiting for an Executive Director – Strategic Initiatives. This role plays a central part in strategic planning, developing assessment tools, and tracking progress towards goals. The position provides support and analysis for University/School initiatives, informing leadership on strategies for institutional improvement. It involves coordinating resources with senior leadership, developing organizational effectiveness efforts, managing external consultants, and coordinating external reviews of academic units. The role also offers guidance on business development, compiles high-level reports, and represents the University/School at various events and workgroups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Ten (10) years of experience working in an administrative leadership role in a comparable field
  • Five (5) years of experience in a management/leadership role
  • Strategic thinking and planning with exceptional skills and experience in research design, strategic planning and assessment of institutional effectiveness.
  • Superb interpersonal skills and in oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated abilities in organizational planning and strategy development.
  • Commitment to teamwork and consensus-building, with a demonstrated ability to partner and lead through influence, across organizational lines.
  • Proven record of successfully establishing and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Proven capacity to manipulate large data sets as well as expertise in designing and producing data-based institutional reports.
  • Follow directives; exhibit ability to adapt to and manage changing work environments; cooperate and work respectfully with others and actively participate and engage in pro-active problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise latitude; begin projects independently (or as assigned), and bring projects (or assignments) to conclusion on a timely basis.
  • Prior experience and understanding of a complex organizational structure and working environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of position requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws.
  • Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems.

Responsibilities

  • Play a central role in strategic planning processes and assist in the development of assessment tools to track progress toward strategic planning goals.
  • Provide support and analysis for the purpose of successful completion of University/School initiatives and to inform leadership in the deliberation and creation of strategies for institutional improvement.
  • Coordinate resources with the senior leadership and staff to ensure maximum support for the major projects.
  • Develop and coordinate organizational effectiveness efforts, including goal deployment and performance measures.
  • Manage the activities of external consultants, assisting with matters of institutional and leadership profile-building and external partnerships.
  • Coordinate external reviews of academic units, which include recruitment of reviewers, synchronization of schedules, preparation of pre-review materials, and compilation of reviewer assessments.
  • Provide guidance to the senior leadership on business development matters and advise on opportunities for coordination with other ongoing efforts of the University/School.
  • Compile information to prepare high-level reports and complete surveys/questionnaires.
  • Represent the University/School at various civic and community events and on workgroups and committees.
