About The Position

The Executive Director of Research Services provides operational oversight of the Pharmaceutical Analysis Core Laboratory (PACL) and supports the research infrastructure of the College of Pharmacy and Health Professions. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Research, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of PACL operations, shared analytical instrumentation, laboratory compliance activities, equipment management, laboratory budgeting, and personnel supervision. The Executive Director works collaboratively with faculty and research staff to expand utilization of the PACL, develop federal equipment grant proposals, and maintain a high-quality shared research environment. The position also provides operational support for research space management, laboratory compliance, and institutional research reporting in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean of Research and the College Program Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and six (6) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of shared research core operations and laboratory management.
  • Ability to oversee complex scientific instrumentation and coordinate maintenance and operational activities.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory compliance requirements, including biosafety and chemical safety.
  • Ability to develop laboratory operating budgets and manage equipment resources.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, research staff, and institutional leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated expertise in operating and managing advanced analytical instrumentation, particularly NMR and LC/MS.
  • Experience managing shared research core facilities.
  • Experience with laboratory budgeting and equipment lifecycle management
  • Experience preparing and submitting federal instrumentation and equipment grant applications (e.g., NIH S10, NSF MRI, DOD DURIP, or similar.)
  • Demonstrated success obtaining or contributing to competitive federal instrumentation or shared research infrastructure funding.
  • Experience with laboratory biosafety, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience supervising scientific and technical personnel.
  • Experience using iLab Core Facility software or similar laboratory management systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee daily operations of the Pharmaceutical Analysis Core Laboratory (PACL), including personnel supervision, shared instrumentation, laboratory budgeting, equipment management, and iLab administration.
  • Maintain laboratory compliance activities, including biosafety protocols, chemical and biohazard inventories, and support annual safety inspections under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean of Research.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean of Research on Higher Education Fund (HEF) requests, federal equipment grant proposals, research infrastructure planning, and research space audits.
  • Provide technical oversight of advanced analytical instrumentation, including NMR and LC/MS platforms.
  • Collaborate with the College Program Manager to support research metrics collection, institutional reporting, and development of research dashboards.
  • Promote growth and utilization of the Pharmaceutical Analysis Core Laboratory by supporting faculty and external investigators.
