About The Position

We’re looking for an Executive Director, Product and Technology who is obsessed with one thing: turning great ideas into products for our readers/viewers, newsroom and business team. This is a job for somebody who is passionate about the news and how users get must-have information in a fast-paced, competitive environment. You'll report directly to the Managing Director and work closely with our newsroom and business leadership to build the tools, features, and infrastructure that serve our readers and power our business. This is a role for somebody who wants to build, and wants to be a part of shaping the future of specialty news. You’ll be a primary decision-maker on how we build and ship, and you'll manage a small engineering team while remaining a hands-on contributor. Enthusiasm for being a hands-on partner to our senior newsroom and business leaders is a must.

Requirements

  • Mid career technical leader who has set architecture direction and shipped products at a high-velocity startup or product-driven company.
  • Experience in media, publishing, or an adjacent space.
  • LLM-native: You use AI tools as a core part of your workflow and understand how they're changing what's possible for non-engineers.
  • A proven builder with strong full-stack or backend engineering fundamentals who is still actively writing code
  • Comfortable in a player-coach role. You're managing a small team but you're still in the work every day. You care about what ships, not who gets credit.
  • Based in the United States; fully remote

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical architecture and drive the build and delivery of products across the Endpoints ecosystem. This includes our core news platforms, subscription and identity systems, survey and data products, events infrastructure, among others.
  • Make pragmatic build/buy/integrate decisions, with a strong bias toward leveraging modern tooling (including AI and LLM-powered workflows) to ship faster
  • Partner directly with editorial and business leadership to translate ideas into shipped features, moving as fast as the newsroom demands to serve our readers
  • Review, refine, and ship code and products created by non-engineering team members (including AI-assisted builds from editorial and business stakeholders), evaluating them on their merits and getting solid work into production quickly
  • Lead and grow the tech and engineering team, setting standards, unblocking people, and building a culture of speed and craftsmanship
  • Work closely with senior leadership to shape the product direction and have a strong bias towards “here’s how we build that” and not "here's why we can't"
