About The Position

The Executive Director reports directly to the Vice President of Spiritual Development. Working in accord with university leadership and the Office of Spiritual Development (OSD) management team, the Executive Director oversees OSD programming for Liberty University students. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Spiritual Development, the Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership and organizational oversight of the Liberty Pastoral Counseling and Care (LPCC) department, ensuring the department is achieving its mission to the university and the Liberty student body. He/she is personally responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the LPCC office, which includes pastoral counseling, residential and online pastoral care (chaplaincy, crisis management, grief support and benevolence guidance, encouragement and prayer), and the MK student care program.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree with a concentration in higher education, student development, counseling, pastoral studies, biblical studies or a related field
  • 3-5 years of mid-level management experience and/or student development related experience in a management capacity is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of institutional assessment and educational trends as they relate to higher education, required.
  • Well-developed communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer skills, especially Microsoft office; ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership over the LPCC’s staff, budget, scholarship processes, and all core administrative functions to ensure operational efficiency and strategic alignment with university goals.
  • Manage the Director of MK and Intercultural Student Care and ensure that the MK’s are properly oriented into the LU community.
  • Collaborate with university leadership (e.g., President, Vice President, Student Advocate, International Student Office) to address and resolve student-related issues.
  • Assist Vice President with various other duties and functions as deemed appropriate.
  • Oversee all aspects (e.g., development, processes, training, implementation, follow-up) of pastoral counseling and care services for residential and online student populations.
  • Oversee chaplaincy including hospital visitations, support for parents in the loss of students, support for students in the loss of parents and other loved ones, and the coordination of memorial services.
  • Manage and oversee the Incident Reports and Liberty Emergency Services reports for matters requiring immediate attention (e.g., hospitalization, suicidal language, sickness, family emergency, death, assault, spiritual warfare, etc.).
  • Manage and oversee the system to communicate with parents when warranted (e.g., physical, social, psychological, spiritual, academic, or discipline related issues), while following FERPA guidelines.
  • Oversee benevolence fund as it relates to residential and online students with financial needs.
  • Oversee evaluation and revisions of office publications (e.g., manual, website information, brochures, newsletters, etc.).
  • Act as liaison to faculty, staff and administration regarding student related situations.
  • Attend departmental and official Liberty University meetings as required.
  • Remain abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission and the mission of OSD.
