About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Facilities Management. This role provides strategic leadership for diverse assigned facilities operational units at a leading R-1 research university and is a member of the department’s senior leadership team. The Executive Director leads a management team overseeing Energy, Sustainability, and Compliance, Custodial Services, Landscape and Grounds, Project Management, and skilled Maintenance trades staff across Maryland and Shadow Lane Campuses. This is a supervisory position with significant leadership and financial responsibilities and is a position of trust. The Executive Director will be expected to foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional standards. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can balance day-to-day operational demands with long-term strategic initiatives, including capital planning, deferred maintenance reduction, and sustainability goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management Sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of management experience in facilities management or related fields.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree in management, business administration, engineering, architecture, sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Facilities management leadership experience at one or more academic higher educational institutions.
  • Management or supervisory experience in healthcare, biotechnology, or health tech research institutions, and/or academic health center settings.
  • Management or supervisory experience in one or more R-1 research institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively oversee, coordinate, manage, and provide support to the Assistant Director of Custodial Services, the Assistant Director of Facilities for the Shadow Lane Campus, the Assistant Director for Trades and their teams in delivering exceptional and timely services in support of the university’s Top Tier 2.0 Strategic Mission and Vision and the department’s strategy in supporting this mission and vision.
  • Actively participate in reviewing, refining, and implementing the FM department’s strategy. And align with University financial planning and capital cycles.
  • Determine key priorities and a clear vision that will ensure exceptional levels of service across the physical plant and assigned teams to maintain and develop world-class university facilities for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Develop and build upon strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across the campus through effective communication, deconfliction (de-escalation?), trust, and transparency.
  • Advise the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and peers on measures of progress towards achieving success in implementing the department’s strategic plan.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, cost containment, and continuous improvement among assigned teams.
  • Conduct regular team meetings as directed to communicate university, Business Affairs, and FM department initiatives and developments in support of the university’s Top Tier 2.0 Strategic Mission and Vision.
  • Develop, communicate, and share best practices with assigned teams and peers.
  • Foster a positive work culture focused on developing, recruiting, rewarding, and retaining staff.
  • Advocate on behalf of Facilities Management by communicating departmental needs, staffing models, and funding gaps to the AVP, CFO, and executive leadership.
