The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) leverages technology to drive opportunity, improve public safety, and help run better across New York City. From delivering affordable broadband to protecting against cybersecurity threats and building digital government services, OTI is at the forefront of how the city delivers for New Yorkers in the 21st century. The Public Interest Technology (PIT) Crew, at the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation, builds the technology, products, and services needed to deliver a more affordable New York City. We design, build, and launch exceptional public-facing products for New Yorkers. We are hiring a PIT Crew Executive Director of Engineering to build and shape the direction of the PIT Crew. This is a hands-on executive director position. You will work to drive clarity and action in ambiguity; pair closely with designers, engineers, product managers, user researchers, policy experts, and other city employees to help the team move from problem statements to working products and services for New Yorkers; define and lead the software engineering practice for the PIT Crew and enable the team to do exceptional engineering work; serve as an expert in your craft; and be comfortable diving into unblock work, however the situation demands - including individual contributor work. In addition to enabling a suite of short-term projects, you will help determine PIT Crew’s long-term direction; synthesize strategy with an eye towards building long-term momentum; advise on team structure and hiring practices; and build a culture of delivering rapidly and responsibly for New Yorkers.
