About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as the Executive Director, Finance Systems & Decision Support responsible for modernizing and integrating UChicago Medicine’s financial analytics, reporting, and systems across a complex, growing health system. Reporting to the Vice President of VP, Budget and Financial Planning & Analysis, this leader partners closely with Finance and IT to shape enterprise strategy for financial systems, decision support, reporting governance, and analytics transformation. The role drives standardization, improves data accessibility, and builds scalable analytics capabilities while advancing AI-enabled and real-time decision support tools to strengthen operational and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate combines healthcare finance expertise, systems and analytics experience, and strong leadership skills to translate complex data into actionable insights and guide cross-functional transformation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare finance, decision support, financial systems, analytics, or related areas.
  • Strong experience serving as a strategic partner between Finance and IT within a healthcare or academic medical center environment.
  • Experience leading financial systems implementations, reporting transformations, or enterprise analytics initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success building and developing high-performing analytical and technical teams.
  • Experience with healthcare financial systems and analytics platforms such as Strata, Kaufman Hall, Epic, Workday, Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar tools.
  • Expertise in labor cost management and reporting, including forecasting, variance analysis, and bi-weekly productivity reporting.
  • Proven experience managing interdisciplinary workstreams with stakeholders from HR, Finance, IT, and clinical leaders to drive improvement work.
  • Experience managing data governance frameworks processes to define organizational definitions and targets and ensure internal data integrity.
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare finance, cost accounting, service line analytics, financial planning, and enterprise reporting.
  • Strong communication, relationship management, and executive presentation skills.
  • Ability to independently lead a team through analytical discovery, insight generation, and communicate insights to senior leadership.
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills, with proficiency in Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SQL to demonstrate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Change management and continuous improvement mindset, skilled at identifying root causes of variation, developing action plans to improve performance, and drive adoption of labor management practices.
  • In-depth knowledgeable in timekeeping best practices, scheduling patterns, and report writing.
  • Skilled in designing and delivering effective labor management training programs tailored to a variety of leadership audiences, enhancing their financial acumen and drive operational improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain enterprise-wide reporting governance standards that improve consistency, reliability, and trust in financial and operational reporting.
  • Ensure data integrity, system security, compliance, and appropriate controls across financial analytics platforms and reporting environments.
  • Assess current reporting capabilities across finance functions and prioritize opportunities for improvement and standardization.
  • Partner with stakeholders to continuously refine reports, dashboards, and analytical tools to meet evolving business needs.
  • Monitor system performance, data refresh cycles, reporting delivery, and vendor service levels.
  • Lead and develop a growing team of Directors, Decision Support Analysts, Business Intelligence Analysts, and Financial Systems professionals.
  • Build a strong, collaborative team culture focused on continuous learning, innovation, accountability, and service excellence.
  • Assess organizational capabilities and develop workforce plans that prepare the team for evolving analytical and technical demands.
  • Mentor and coach team members while creating growth opportunities and clear career pathways within the function.
  • Lead change management efforts related to new systems, reporting frameworks, governance standards, and analytics capabilities.
  • Own and maintain the finance systems roadmap in partnership with the VP, Budget and Financial Planning & Analysis and Information Technology leadership.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Finance and IT, ensuring financial priorities are represented in enterprise technology planning and system investments.
  • Lead efforts to consolidate fragmented reporting and data environments into a more integrated and governed analytics ecosystem.
  • Establish consistent reporting standards, data definitions, governance processes, and system controls across the organization.
  • Oversee the implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of financial systems, decision support tools, ERP platforms, and business intelligence applications.
  • Ensure financial systems integrate effectively with operational systems including EHR, HR, supply chain, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Help advance the organization’s vision for AI-enabled finance and analytics capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to improve forecasting, reporting, anomaly detection, scenario modeling, and operational decision support.
  • Partner with IT and external vendors to evaluate and implement emerging analytics and AI technologies responsibly and effectively.
  • Support the development of natural language reporting capabilities that allow leaders to access financial insights more easily and efficiently.
  • Promote adoption of modern analytics tools and improve overall data literacy within the Finance organization.

  • The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis.
