About The Position

Leads the grades TK-5 standards-based programs across instructional disciplines (e.g., ELA, math, science, STEAM, arts, etc.) in addition to Community Schools, Instructional Technology Initiative, Tutoring, and the Arts Branch. Directs, oversees, administers, and is accountable for the TK-5th grade educational program and assessment systems that ensure students are college and career ready. Leads content teams in developing system strategies to positively influence student outcomes. Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive curriculum and professional development plan for teachers, administrators and support staff. Develops partnerships and agreements with internal and external stakeholders to extend learning opportunities for students. Evaluates data collection and reporting to review programs, analyze outcomes, and ensure accountability. Develops policies, directs division strategies, evaluates programs, and ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Leads teams to facilitate group processes with all stakeholders, students, local and state agencies, and community representatives to generate consensus building and conflict resolution. Represents the District on committees, task forces, and at special events to advocate for elementary education priorities. Evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel. During periods of critical personnel shortage or other emergency situation, shall temporarily perform any duties, as directed, within the authorization of any credentials held by the incumbent that are registered with the Office of the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools and that are a part of the class description requirements in effect at the time such duties are performed. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least ten (10) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school experience as an elementary principal
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential (Out-of-state applicants must qualify for and obtain a California credential prior to selection approval.)
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework

  • Knowledge of effective administrative and managerial practices and ability to implement them
  • Leadership skill in facilitating group processes, including consensus building and conflict resolution
  • Ability to provide administrative leadership at the executive level including decision-making, problem-solving, and delegation of authority
  • Ability to absorb, analyze, organize, and project information and ideas
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, local and state agencies, community and bargaining unit representatives, colleagues, and other District personnel, both individually and as a group
