About The Position

The Executive Communications Manager orchestrates the New York Power Authority’s public and internal voice for the president and CEO—focusing on NYPA’s commitment to building a more reliable, affordable and sustainable energy future for all New Yorkers. The ideal candidate is responsible for both internal and external communications, including developing strategy, content and materials.

Requirements

  • Solid grounding in communications strategy and progressively responsible practical experience in communications and marketing development across many channels.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to convert technical information to laymen’s terms and storytelling opportunities.
  • Experience with digital communications and social media.
  • Experience creating collaborative, flexible, friendly and approachable team dynamic – with client services and relationship-building being a top priority.
  • Experience managing editing and version control process across multiple business units and integrating multiple written styles into one distinct “voice” within a written document required

  • Demonstrated interest in energy or infrastructure required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 6 years of increasing responsibility in corporate communications, journalism, marketing or related field in a demanding communications-focused environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP-style) writing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Draft and create communications that build trust, engagement and a positive reputation with a variety of employee and external stakeholders through existing and new communications channels.
  • Deeply understand the strategy and content needs of our Channel partners (e.g. Internal, Web, Social, Email, etc.) to inform content plans, creative development, and holistic stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Develop program/project-specific marketing and communications material; manage campaigns and communication planning as directed.
  • Support creation and upkeep of a master editorial calendar incorporating content plans across communications modalities.
  • Partner closely with digital/social media to co-define integrated plans and ensure quality execution.
  • Help plan and execute employee events, by developing strategic content agendas, identifying content contributors, shaping and editing presentation materials, and managing event logistics.
  • Create content across multiple channels, edit/proofread and/or update communication materials as requested, including presentations, press releases, speeches, industry and community award submissions, websites, newsletters, posters, social media posts, brochures, etc.
  • Identify/monitor metrics to assess impact of communications messaging and summarize/create reports for presentation to management.
  • Draft compelling speeches that have high visibility and high impact for the CEO and Executive Management Committee, ensuring the messaging aligns with the organization's vision, values, and strategic goals.
  • Provide talking points, create engaging presentations and company materials in support of event planning, including the day of event.
  • Translate complex business, policy or regulatory topics into compelling audience-tailored narratives.
  • Provide strategic communications guidance to leadership.
  • Work with the Corporate Communications team, subject matter experts, and various leaders to align messages with company branding.
