This position assists in the planning, implementation, delivery, and direction of public health nursing services in a county health department (CHD) to include the following programs: Immunization, Infection Control, Family Planning, Women’s Health, Tuberculosis Program, HIV/STD services, Epidemiology, Dental Program, and satellite clinics. Supervises the Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners, the Dental Program Manager, Dentist, Epidemiology staff, nursing staff, health support technicians and clerical staff. Prepares clinical coverage schedules. Monitor clinical activities to determine optimum patient flow. Review and develop policies as needed. Ensures Nursing Protocols are updated yearly Reviews and assesses the needs of the assigned programs to ensure efficient and effective use of allocated dollars. Monitors assigned program budgets throughout the year and keeps Business Manager and Health Officer informed of any increased expenditures or needs. Reviews agency program data and standards. Reviews assigned program activities, problems, and functions with the Health Officer to evaluate and revise work standards. Implements changes to ensure that standards, policies, and procedures are current. MAY provide APRN clinical services within the scope of practice. Serves as a backup clinical nurse when an emergency arises or when there is a shortage of personnel to ensure that clients are served promptly and effectively. Provides on-call coverage after hours. Participates in disaster preparedness and response activities.
