About The Position

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking an organized, proactive, and detail-oriented executive assistant to support the Vice President, Senior Fellow, and Director of the Richard Haass Center for Education. This role is essential in supporting the VP, DORHC with administrative tasks and priorities. The EA, DORHC will play a key role in assisting with the day-to-day operations, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and ensuring the smooth execution of projects. This position is based in CFR’s Washington, DC office at least four days per week. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite. CFR’s remote working schedule is subject to change.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
  • An interest in CFR’s mission
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills
  • The ability to meet demanding deadlines with a positive attitude and interact with members and the public in a professional manner
  • The ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with tracking expenses
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong attention to detail
  • A team player with capacity to take initiative, demonstrate flexibility, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Related experience that required judgment

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the VP, DORHC, including managing complex calendars, preparing meetings, drafting correspondence, registering and escorting guests, and coordinating travel.
  • Track departmental expenses, manage the VP, DORHC’s corporate credit card, and coordinate invoice payments and reimbursements
  • Provide a bridge for smooth communication from/to the office of the VP, DORHC with leaders and staff across the organization
  • Draft and edit communications, presentations, and reports on behalf of the VP, DORHC
  • Attend meetings, when appropriate, with the VP, DORHC, and take notes for follow-up and/or circulation
  • Handle ad-hoc projects as assigned by the VP, DORHC, which may include coordinating cross-departmental initiatives or assisting with high-priority tasks
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required
