About The Position

The Utility Bill Exceptions Specialist is a vital analytical role, serving as the last line of defense against costly billing errors for our clients. You will be trained as a Utility Expert to identify and investigate abnormalities in meter reads, tariffs, and other billing information. Your sharp eye and dedication will lead to massive, tangible savings for our clients. Our team has a proven track record of success. For example, in 2022, we saved our clients a combined total of over $2.38 million!

Requirements

  • Exceptional Attention to Detail: A critical eye for spotting subtle errors and discrepancies in large data sets.
  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to explain complex issues clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong independent problem-solving skills; comfortable using provided resources and tools to resolve issues without constant supervision.
  • Prioritization: Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize multiple cases, and consistently meet strict deadlines.
  • Technical Comfort: Comfortable using a computer, including familiarity with Google Drive and Microsoft Excel (or equivalent spreadsheet software).
  • Adaptability: A commitment to quickly learning and adapting to new computer software and billing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analysis to research, identify, and resolve complex anomalies and discrepancies in utility provider bills.
  • Learn to quickly decipher utility data to determine when meter reads or charges are inaccurate or out of the ordinary.
  • Determine and execute the best course of action to resolve billing issues, contacting the necessary parties (providers and clients).
  • Detect and analyze inefficient internal processes and propose innovative solutions to streamline our billing audit system.
  • Maintain professional communication with utility providers and clients via email and phone.
  • Handle medium phone volume (approximately 25-50% of your day) for outbound calls to providers and clients.
