Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and valid Florida teaching certificate required for subject and grade being taught
Holds a valid Florida teaching certificate with coverage other than that required under the Florida Course Code Directory or, has been properly identified as qualified non-certificated instructional personnel with expert skill or knowledge in accordance with Rule 6A-1.0502, F.A.C.

Responsibilities

Manages and provides instructional guidance, teaching and general strategies for a caseload of students.
Provides General Education Instructors with suggested strategies/accommodations to best meet individual needs of Students with Disabilities (SWD).
Provides direct services to students.
Provides instruction that contributes to academic growth and positive development of students and demonstrates knowledge of subject matter to be taught.
Develops, writes and helps implement Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans.
Evaluates tests and assessments, completes report cards and conducts parent conferences.
Assesses the progress of the students assigned.
Reports student progress information to School officials at scheduled intervals.
Reports student progress and performance to parents at scheduled intervals and as specific individual needs arise.
Communicates regularly with parents of students with special needs to ensure that their IEP goals are being met and are addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion.
Plans, organizes and creates a positive classroom learning environment.
Establishes classroom guidelines which support the policies of the school and enhance the learning environment for the students.
Maintains discipline of students.
Provides for the safety and welfare of any and all students of the School.
Assists with management and supervision of students throughout the School day.
Consults with teachers and other staff in coordination and implementation of specially designed instruction, as defined in the IEP for students with specific needs and identified learning issues.
Schedules, organizes and conducts IEP related meetings.
Participates in the school’s Student Support Team by helping teachers and parents develop and implement program modifications and strategies for all students.
Assists with the organization and proper implementation of all paperwork, documentation and procedures for the IEP process.
Assists with locating service providers for students needing related services as mandated by their IEPs.
Assists with administering state testing and coordinate special accommodations that are required based on the IEP.
Follows and upholds the policies of the School and assist students with appropriate behavior and actions that reflect the policies of the School.
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others.
Organizes and participates in School activities and functions which may occur outside the regular School schedule.
Collaborates with instructional staff to coordinate instructional activities and resources within and across the curriculum.
Attends meetings and professional development sessions as established by the School leadership.
Attends scheduled staff meetings.
Contributes to the learning community atmosphere of the School.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date data in the school’s Student Information System.
Supports colleagues in the delivery of instruction as it pertains to areas of specialty and follow the curriculum guidelines to implement project-based and place-based educational experiences for students in accordance with the school’s curriculum goals.
Contributes to the learning community atmosphere of the School and maintain the confidentiality of student information as required by school policy and Florida and Federal Law.
