About The Position

The Exceptional Student Education Teacher - ESE Resource serves as a case manager to support the implementation of the IEP processes in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations. The role provides an educational atmosphere where students can move toward fulfilling their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation, aligning with District philosophy, goals, and objectives. This position requires the development of appropriate Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), including determining present levels of performance, measurable annual goals with benchmarks or short-term objectives, and appropriate classroom/testing accommodations. The teacher will collect and monitor student performance data, adjust specially designed instruction, identify IEP goal needs, and report student progress. Collaboration with general education teachers, service providers, and other staff is essential. The role involves supporting general education teachers in implementing accommodations and strategies, assisting in developing interventions for students with disabilities, and coordinating IEP meetings and reevaluation reviews. Participation in Eligibility Determination and Manifestation Determination meetings, and the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Improvement Plans (BIPs) may also be required. The teacher will act as the Local Education Agency (LEA) Representative if designated by an administrator. A strong understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is crucial for implementing all requirements for students with disabilities. The position involves planning and delivering engaging, differentiated instruction to help students with disabilities master state standards, creating schedules for assigned paraprofessionals, and guiding their instruction. Transition planning for students with disabilities, including assessments and related procedures, is also a key responsibility. The teacher will establish short and long-range goals based on student needs and curriculum requirements, verify attendance for FTE purposes, and assist in scheduling IEP services. Maintaining a positive, collaborative, organized, and safe learning environment, managing time and resources effectively, and establishing efficient record-keeping procedures are also part of the role. The teacher will assist in enforcing school rules and policies, utilize progress monitoring strategies, and administer state assessments in an appropriate testing environment. Demonstrating knowledge of subject matter, applying learning principles and research-based strategies, using multimedia approaches, and enhancing critical thinking skills are expected. Providing quality, challenging, and relevant work aligned with IEP goals, recognizing and acting on indicators of student distress or abuse, and instructing on safety procedures are also important. Effective communication with professionals, students, parents, and the community, collaboration with colleagues, and a commitment to professional growth through development and maintaining professional certification are vital. The teacher will model professional and ethical conduct and support school improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
Valid Florida Educator’s Certificate in Exceptional Student Education and Endorsement, as required.
Meet certification and highly qualified requirement for core content area(s), at appropriate level.
Ability to design and implement educational services for exceptional students.
Knowledge of prescribed curriculum and research-based strategies for instructing students with varying learning abilities and styles.
Ability to use technology to support learning.
Ability to effectively assess levels of student achievement, analyze data and prescribe actions for improvement.
Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision, so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.
Ability to provide specially designed instruction specific to IEP goals.
Knowledge of best practices and pedagogy for individual skill acquisition for student with disabilities learning styles that require adaptations or modifications to instructional delivery to demonstrate learning gains.
Demonstrate knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and implement all requirements for students with disabilities.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of subject matter content.
Apply principles of learning and effective research-based strategies in instructional design, planning and delivery.
Use appropriate strategies and techniques to enhance critical thinking skills in students.

Responsibilities
