Requirements

  • Highly effective communication and collaboration skills with all stakeholders
  • Commitment to high academic achievement and to education of the whole child
  • Prior experience teaching students with disabilities in a school setting
  • Demonstrate strong classroom and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team with a commitment to his/her own learning
  • Experience designing and implementing differentiated lessons in all subject areas
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Holds or is eligible to secure a valid TN State teacher certification

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Additional skills that enhance students’ academic experience (e.g. multi-lingual, musician, etc.) highly sought

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, supportive classroom culture that promotes joy, self-discipline and Explore!’s core values
  • Support and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure school-wide success
  • Develop and implement student-specific and fully compliant IEPs that lead students to rigorous and meaningful goals
  • Maintain accurate and complete cumulative records for students on your caseload, as prescribed by IDEA, MNPS and the Tennessee Department of Education
  • Collaborate with parents, school staff, and service providers to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum
  • Coordinate referral and assessment procedures and facilitate IEP team meetings
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction and interventions in the General Education (or Resource Room) settings as determined by IEPs
  • Provide accommodations and/or modifications as determined by IEPs
  • Maintain close relationships with families, including phone calls and virtual/in-person conferences
  • Develop and implement functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
  • Respond to crisis situations, as needed, utilizing CPI strategies of de-escalation
