About The Position

Designs and provides specialized instruction to students with moderate to severe/profound cognitive or developmental needs in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines. This role involves providing direct instruction, intervention, and consultation for students on a modified curriculum that aligns to the Tennessee Alternate Assessment Standards as indicated on the Individual Educational Program (IEP). The teacher will collaborate with general educators to plan assessments and analyze progress monitoring data to develop instructionally appropriate IEPs. Progress monitoring of all students receiving intensive intervention in academics, social-emotional, and behavior is crucial, along with continuous communication of progress toward goals with students, parents, and the school team. The position requires planning and utilizing data-driven instructional strategies, resources, and equipment that reflect an understanding of students' instructional needs. Ensuring students on a modified curriculum participate in required statewide tests with appropriate accommodations and modifications is also a key responsibility. The teacher will maintain IEP compliance with State and Federal laws governing students with disabilities and manage paraprofessional support in the general education setting to ensure students on a modified curriculum are in their least restrictive environment. Scheduling and facilitating IEP team meetings, re-evaluation meetings, and manifestation determination meetings in accordance with State and Federal laws is required. Coordination of service delivery for students with disabilities with all related service providers (e.g., speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, nurse) is essential. The role includes developing, implementing, and monitoring Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans based on student need, and designing classroom management systems and implementing behavioral strategies that facilitate student learning and engagement. Preparation of the physical condition of the classroom to reflect subject matter and facilitate student learning is also part of the role. Collaboration with general educators and related service providers to inform instruction, determine modifications/accommodations, identify supplemental supports, assign grades, and identify inclusive opportunities for students is expected. Participation in ongoing Professional Development activities to ensure the use of the most effective, evidenced-based practices that promote success for students is required.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field
Must hold or be eligible for a certificate or license issued by the Tennessee Department of Education with a Special Education Comprehensive Program K-12 endorsement (461)

Responsibilities
