The purpose of this job is to plan, organize, and direct operations in the assigned area under the supervision of the Executive Director and/or Director of Exceptional Education.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, or Master’s Degree with endorsement in Special Education, or Master’s Degree in Administration Supervision with endorsement in Special Education with at least 10 years teaching and leadership experience.
  • In-depth familiarity with manifestation determination reviews, behavior, trauma-informed practices, and intervention
  • Ability to develop a plan for implementing BIPs with fidelity
  • Extensive knowledge and abilities in supporting the development and implementation of FBAs and BIPs
  • Extensive experience and proven skills in instruction for students with a range of disability classifications and academic skillsets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Power School, Easy IEP, and other technical support areas as needed.
  • Sensitivity to diversity in all its forms.
  • Consistently delivers high quality outcomes under tight deadlines.
  • Exhibits excellent attendance and reliability.
  • Appropriately supervises and treats others with respect and value.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with schools to support manifestation determination meetings and provide training as needed to support the manifestation process.
  • Ensures compliance with IDEA and TDOE guidelines and regulations.
  • Coordinates student transitions to sending schools, ensuring communication and supports are in place.
  • Supports schools with developing safety plans, BIPS and positive behavior support plans as needed.
  • Assists with the organization, planning and training of the district de-escalation and restraint protocol.
  • Facilitates behavior support strategies training system wide.
  • Maintains accurate records and data regarding supports provided by the Behavior Team throughout the district.
  • Coordinates database and ensures responses in a timely manner for incoming behavior support requests and manifestation meetings.
  • Directly support the progress toward the goals in the HCS strategic plan
  • Assume initiative to explore issues and find potential innovative solutions and special projects.
  • Anticipates, identifies, and resolves complex obstacles to ensure success of students with disabilities, exceptional education and general education teachers and administrators, as well as exceptional education department colleagues.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Executive Director and the Director of Behavior
  • Consistently exhibit appropriate verbal and written communication skills, as well as overall effective supervision of staff.
  • Ensures compliance with district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Communicates through proper channels to alert the Executive Director and other appropriate personnel of emerging problems.
  • Consults and collaborates with Hamilton County Central Office support staff and leaders, State Department of Education, administrators, district employees, other officials and stakeholders.
