About The Position

The Exceptional Children’s Teacher Assistant supports classroom instruction and the broader school program at WH Knuckles Elementary School. The assistant works with supervising teacher(s) to prepare materials, implement planned programs, support student supervision, and help maintain a safe, healthful, and orderly learning environment. The position is listed as 10 months, with a starting salary of $2,868.67 per month (Grade 56). The application deadline is October 27, 2026.

Requirements

Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Completion of 48 semester hours of college credits or an Associate Degree; official transcript required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Availability and willingness to work extended hours.
Above-average interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Cooperate in developing classroom procedures.
Assist in preparing materials.
Maintain awareness of the goals and objectives of supervising teacher(s).
Assist in implementing the planned program.
Provide information to teacher(s) concerning program evaluation.
Participate in and facilitate activities that improve the effectiveness of the total school program.
Carry out student supervisory duties promptly and responsibly to ensure a safe and healthful environment.
Exhibit positive behavior toward children, parents, staff, and administrators.
Represent the needs of the school and children to parents and the community in a positive manner.
Conduct oneself as a positive role model in the school and community.
Assist students with understanding, interpreting, and adhering to laws, rules, and regulations.
Share responsibility for school cleanliness and neatness.
Help develop good housekeeping skills and regard for the environment inside and outside the classroom.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
