Summary: Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Heavy Equipment Operator - Excavator Operator is responsible for experienced operation of an Excavator in an open pit mine worksite, or on a Civil Construction worksite. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/pre-access testing.

Requirements

  • Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
  • Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
  • 3 year Drivers Abstract is required
  • At least 2-4 years of experience operating Heavy Equipment in Mining and/or Civil Construction is required.
  • CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
  • Excavator operation (over/under 180 tons) is required.
  • Ability to speak, write and read English is required
  • This is a temporary, project based position located north of Fort McMurray, AB, on the Syncrude Aurora site.
  • Work schedule is 14 days on, 7 days off; days and nights. 11.5 hour shift.
  • NOTE: Camp/ flight accommodations are NOT provided.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an excavator to excavate, move, and load earth, gravel, rock, or other materials during mining related activities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks on equipment, keep equipment clean, and perform basic maintenance or lubrication as required.
  • Accept instructions as directed, and adjust work/strategy according to changing conditions, policies and procedures as needed.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
  • Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.
