The Excavator Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment, overseeing on‑site activities, and ensuring safe, accurate installation of utilities and structural supports. This role combines hands‑on excavation work with leadership responsibilities, including identifying underground utilities, coordinating crews, and maintaining compliance with safety and project specifications. Requirements

  • 3–5 years operating excavators and working around underground utilities.
  • Ability to read utility plans, identify water and sewer lines, and work safely around live services.
  • Valid driver’s license; OSHA 10/30 preferred; trench safety certification a plus.
  • Experience directing crews, coordinating tasks, and maintaining workflow.
  • Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and site plans.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and handle physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • OSHA 10/30 preferred
  • trench safety certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators to dig trenches, foundations, and utility lines with precision.
  • Locate, identify, and verify water mains, sewer lines, and drainage systems before and during excavation.
  • Act as on‑site foreman; coordinate laborers, communicate with supervisors, and ensure tasks are completed to plan.
  • Install, inspect, and maintain trench shoring systems to protect workers and maintain OSHA compliance.
  • Clear, grade, and prepare job sites; remove debris and support layout activities.
  • Load trucks, move materials, and support multi‑equipment operations.
  • Perform daily inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
  • Enforce safety protocols, PPE requirements, and trench safety regulations.
  • Direct ground crews, signal operators, and maintain clear communication across the job site.
