About The Position

The EVS Tech I is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas within Advocate Condell Medical Center and potentially off-site facilities. This includes tasks such as washing walls, doors, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment using appropriate cleaning solutions and following specific schedules. The role also involves operating various equipment, using chemicals according to policy, and maintaining an orderly, clean, and safe work area. A strong emphasis is placed on customer satisfaction, utilizing AIDET with internal and external customers, constructively resolving conflicts, and maintaining a positive, supportive attitude towards patients, families, and colleagues. The position requires thorough cleaning and sanitizing of patient rooms and washrooms, especially after patient discharges, and making beds with clean linen. The EVS Tech I must also select and transport appropriate cleaning materials and supplies, replenish them as needed, collect and sanitize waste, and adhere to Standard Precautions, Infection Control Policies, and departmental procedures. This includes cleaning after emergency spills, managing soiled linen, and ensuring a safe and attractive environment. The role involves preparing cleaning solutions, sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, and spot cleaning floors, as well as shampooing furniture and carpets. Additionally, the EVS Tech I is responsible for moving equipment and furniture for cleaning or relocation, arranging furniture for meetings, reporting equipment needing repair, and reporting safety hazards. The position also includes collecting and distributing soiled and clean linens, and collecting hazardous and medical waste according to established procedures, while separating regular and recyclable trash. A commitment to professional growth is expected, including attending mandatory meetings, completing annual training, following departmental goals, and seeking learning experiences. Maintaining proper attendance and punctuality is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Able to operate small electrical equipment e.g., vacuum cleaners
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English as related to the performance of the essential job activities outlined (including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials)

Responsibilities

  • Clean/disinfects assigned area(s) by washing walls, doors, door frames, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, tile, fixtures, appliances, floors, and equipment with appropriate cleaning solutions using procedures and following schedules specific to each item.
  • Operates various equipment following department procedures.
  • Use chemicals and solution following department policy.
  • Keeps work areas in orderly, clean and safe condition.
  • Utilized AIDET with both Internal Customer and External Customers, meeting system goal.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively when dealing with fellow associates.
  • Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to patient families and other personnel in emergency and non-emergency situation.
  • Displays patient and tact when dealing with other hospital personnel.
  • Presents department in a positive manner to all contacts.

  • Thoroughly washes and sanitizes beds when patients are discharged; makes beds with clean linen in accordance with department procedures.
  • Thoroughly cleans and sanitizes entire room and washroom when patients are discharged, utilizing established department procedures.
  • Use appropriate germicide in disinfecting rooms.
  • Clean all assigned areas utilizing the established department procedures.
  • Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissues, soap, etc.; pick up additional supplies from the environmental services storeroom when needed.
  • Routinely collects waste; sanitizes all garbage cans.
  • Observes and follows Standard (Universal) Precautions, Infection Control Policies, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills as requested.
  • Place full, tied bags of soiled linen in linen chutes.
  • Ensures a safe clean attractive environment for patient, visitors and associates at all times.
  • Washes hand thoroughly throughout the day; follows and adheres to Hospital handwash policy.
  • Prepares detergents, germicidal solutions and other cleaning/disinfecting solutions according to established formulas.
  • Sweeps, dust mops, and wet mop floor areas and spot cleans carpets using appropriate solutions.
  • Shampoos furniture, carpets and rugs using appropriate equipment and supplies and adhering to applicable schedules.
  • Identifies types of soiled and/or spotting and utilizes proper solutions as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.
  • Handles chemicals and solutions following departmental policies.
  • Ensures that all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers.
  • Adheres to safety regulations as outlined in departmental policy and procedure.
  • Move equipment and furniture for cleaning, rearrangement and/or relocation.
  • Arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion, and in accordance with applicable floor plans, after cleaning assigned area(s).
  • Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops and community affairs according to specifications of responsible department/individual as required.
  • Cleans equipment and notifies supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Appropriately reports safety hazards.
  • Returns unused supplies to closet where obtained, cleans carts and equipment and ensures all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
  • Collects and/or distributes soiled and/or clean linens, as required.
  • Collects trash and/or waste from all areas of the hospital, as required.
  • Collects hazardous and medical waste according to procedures establish by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Sanitizes all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Separates regular and recycle trash according to procedure.
  • Attends all mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and inservices.
  • Completes annual CBT's required.
  • Follows written department goals and objectives, and review annually with managers.
  • Seeks education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs and review progress during annual evaluation.
  • Maintain proper attendance requirement outlined in the Hospital Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Plans for special days off in advance and submits written requests for time off to department management for approval per departmental guidelines.
  • Requests PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice to department management absence, and in accordance to departmental policy calls two hour before the beginning of shift.
