About The Position

The EVS Tech I reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for daily cleaning and disinfection of patient and non-patient areas to support a safe, sanitary healing environment. The role frequently interacts with staff, visitors, and patients and requires courteous, service-oriented communication. Work includes cleaning and disinfecting assigned spaces and equipment, responding to service requests, following infection-prevention and safety practices, and using an approved tracking system to document tasks.

Requirements

Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Ability to spend most of the work time standing or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Ability to follow required safety and infection-prevention practices when potentially exposed to industrial-strength cleaning chemicals, body fluids, and communicable diseases.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED.
Previous housekeeping experience in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

Follow departmental policies and manufacturer instructions for the safe handling, dilution, and use of cleaning and disinfecting chemicals and equipment.
Stock and maintain the EVS supply cart or closet at the beginning and end of each shift.
Clean and disinfect patient rooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, and other assigned areas according to established schedules and standards.
Perform discharge or terminal cleaning and enhanced cleaning for isolation rooms as assigned, following infection-prevention precautions.
Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, linen, and waste, including regulated medical waste, in accordance with hospital policy.
Replenish disposable items such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, gloves, and sanitizer.
Clean and disinfect equipment and furniture, including beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and tables, according to unit workflow and EVS procedures.
Respond promptly to service calls, including spills, bodily-fluid cleanups, and room or equipment turnarounds; place wet-floor signage and follow safety protocols.
Dust and spot-clean high and low surfaces, vents, ledges, and other touchpoints, with attention to high-touch areas.
Use required personal protective equipment and follow Standard and Transmission-Based Precautions as applicable.
Use the assigned tracking system and approved electronic devices to receive, document, and close tasks, and communicate status updates as needed.
Provide positive customer service and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
