About The Position

The EVS Tech I is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas within Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and/or off-site facilities. This includes patient rooms, offices, restrooms, and other hospital areas. The role involves operating various equipment, using chemicals safely, and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. A strong commitment to customer satisfaction, effective communication, and adherence to hospital policies and procedures are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Able to operate small electrical equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (including reading and comprehending chemical labels and other safety materials)

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect assigned areas, including walls, doors, ceilings, patient televisions, windows, furniture, floors, and equipment.
  • Operate various cleaning equipment following department procedures.
  • Use chemicals and solutions according to department policy.
  • Maintain work areas in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  • Utilize AIDET with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate constructive conflict resolution with associates.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive attitude towards patients, families, and personnel.
  • Display patience and tact when dealing with hospital personnel.
  • Present the department in a positive manner.
  • Maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude towards patients, families, and other contacts.
  • Maintain confidential patient and departmental information.
  • Utilize the appropriate chain of command for resolving issues.
  • Wash and sanitize beds and make beds with clean linen after patient discharges.
  • Thoroughly clean and sanitize entire rooms and washrooms after patient discharges.
  • Use appropriate germicide for disinfecting rooms.
  • Select and transport appropriate cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissues, and soap.
  • Collect waste and sanitize garbage cans.
  • Observe and follow Standard (Universal) Precautions, Infection Control Policies, and departmental policies.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergency spills.
  • Place full bags of soiled linen in linen chutes.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and attractive environment for patients, visitors, and associates.
  • Wash hands thoroughly throughout the day and adhere to the Hospital handwash policy.
  • Prepare detergents, germicidal solutions, and other cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
  • Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop floor areas and spot clean carpets.
  • Shampoo furniture, carpets, and rugs.
  • Identify types of soil and spotting and utilize proper solutions.
  • Handle chemicals and solutions following departmental policies.
  • Ensure all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers.
  • Adhere to safety regulations.
  • Move equipment and furniture for cleaning, rearrangement, or relocation.
  • Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs.
  • Clean equipment and notify supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Appropriately report safety hazards.
  • Return unused supplies to closets, clean carts and equipment, and ensure all items are replaced in an orderly manner.
  • Collect and/or distribute soiled and/or clean linens.
  • Collect trash and/or waste from all areas of the hospital.
  • Collect hazardous and medical waste according to procedures.
  • Sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
  • Separate regular and recycle trash.
  • Attend mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and inservices.
  • Complete annual CBTs.
  • Follow written department goals and objectives.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs.
  • Maintain proper attendance requirements.
  • Plan for special days off in advance and submit written requests.
  • Request PTO time in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Provide adequate notice for absences and call two hours before the beginning of the shift if absent.
