About The Position

Environmental Services Supervisor Full Time - Monday - Friday 6:00a.m - 2:00 p.m. Pay Range - $19.00 - $23.00/hour based on experience SUMMARY: Assists in supervising the day-to-day activities of the Environmental Services Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing Fahrney-Keedy, and as may directed by the Director of Maintenance to assure that Fahrney-Keedy is maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner. DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY: As an Environmental Services Supervisor, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibilities and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. EMPLOYMENT AT WILL: Employment with Fahrney-Keedy is “at will”. Either the associate or Fahrney-Keedy may terminate the employment relationship for any reason at any time without notice, regardless of the length of employment or the granting of benefits of any kind, including but not limited to benefits which provide for vesting based on length of service. CONFIDENTILITY: Fahrney-Keedy associates recognize that Fahrney-Keedy has and will have information regarding financial, personal and medical affairs and other vital information (collectively, “information”) which are valuable, special and unique assets of Fahrney-Keedy. Associates agree that they will not at any time or in any manner solicit, collect or divulge any Information to any third party without the prior written consent of Fahrney-Keedy. This information is Company property which may not be disclosed outside the facility unless properly released for publication. Associates will protect the Information and treat it as strictly confidential. Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Environmental Services practices and procedures in the nursing care facility.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
  • Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other staff.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the Environmental Services department.
  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of housekeeping areas; must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other staff.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must possess a minimum of a high school education or its equivalent.
  • Must be familiar with care of various types of floors, with cleaning materials, etc., and with cleaning and general housekeeping methods and equipment.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the orientation and training of Environmental Services staff.
  • Interprets department policies and procedures to Environmental Services staff.
  • Reviews job descriptions and work assignments with new and existing staff as directed/necessary.
  • Trains staff in the proper techniques of mixing chemicals, cleaning disinfectants, and solutions.
  • Assigns staff to specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
  • Ensures staff are performing assigned tasks in accordance with established Environmental Services procedures.
  • Reviews and evaluates work performance of staff.
  • Conducts departmental performance evaluations in accordance with Fahrney-Keedy’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that departmental coaching and corrective actions are administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, marital status, or any other legally protected group.
  • Reviews necessary coaching and/or corrective actions with Human Resources and presents to staff as necessary.
  • Reviews complaints/grievances of staff with appropriate department director and/or Human Resources and makes recommendations for resolution.
  • Meets with department directors on a regular basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or improving services.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout Fahrney-Keedy’s campus.
  • Participates in department projects as directed.
  • Provides leadership, follows instructions, and accepts suggestions/constructive criticism in a professional manner.
  • Assumes the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of supervising the Environmental Services staff.
  • Supervises the day-to-day environmental services functions.
  • Develops procedures for performing daily environmental services tasks.
  • Schedules work assignments, prepares cleaning schedules, etc. Revise as necessary.
  • Coordinates daily environmental services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas.
  • Ensures that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
  • Performs administrative requirements (evaluations, payroll, forms, reports, etc.).
  • Agrees not to disclose assigned user ID codes and passwords for accessing resident/facility information and promptly reports suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the CEO or Administrator.
  • Attends department and staff meetings as directed.
  • Attends and participates in annual in-service training programs.
  • Ensures that fire protection and prevention programs are maintained by staff in accordance with Fahrney-Keedy’s fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that Environmental Services staff follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures all staff wear and or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects.
  • Ensures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner.
  • Ensures the appropriate MDS for chemicals being used by Environmental Services are properly labeled and stored.
  • Ensures that containers of hazardous chemicals in the department are properly labeled and stored.
  • Ensures that all Environmental Services staff follow established policies governing the use of labels and MDS.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Director of Maintenance.
  • Ensures that established infection control and universal precaution practices are maintained when performing Environmental Services procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals participate in appropriate in-service training programs prior to perform such tasks.
  • Ensures Environmental Services staff follow established handwashing procedures.
  • Ensures that refuse is disposed of daily and in accordance with Fahrney-Keedy’s sanitation procedures.
  • Ensures that Environmental Services staff follow policies governing the use/disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes.
  • Coordinates routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing services.
  • Conducts daily inspections of assigned work areas to assure that cleanliness and sanitary conditions are maintained.
  • Ensures that an adequate supply of Environmental Services supplies is maintained for daily tasks.
  • Monitors housekeeping procedures to ensure that supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste.
  • Ensures appropriate personal protective equipment used in handling of infectious materials is available and easily accessible to Environmental Services staff.
  • Ensures equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
  • Ensure that you treat all residents fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.
  • Knock and wait for permission to enter all residents’ rooms.
  • Report all grievances and complaints made by the residents to the Nursing Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property to the Fahrney-Keedy Abuse Coordinator.
  • Honor the resident’s refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your Supervisor.
