About The Position

The EVS Lead is responsible for overseeing Environmental Services (EVS) Technicians and Specialists to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and sanitary manner. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of various hospital areas, including floors, patient and visitor areas, patient discharge rooms, carpeting, windows, walls, and ceilings. The Lead also manages the transport of soiled textiles and trash, and ensures associated equipment is properly maintained. A key aspect of the role is to maintain the hospital in a sanitary and attractive condition, overseeing the productivity of the EVS department, and ensuring patient rooms are cleaned and sanitized according to policy after discharge. The EVS Lead serves as the primary point of contact for EVS issues during the 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete job skills training checklist
  • Experience in Environmental Services and associated chemical handling is mandatory
  • Personal protective equipment is required; such as, gloves and goggles
  • Must adhere to established hospital and Environmental Services Department policies, rules and regulations
  • Demonstrates safe work habits and reports unsafe conditions and Incidents as they may occur
  • Participates in professional development activities, as assigned, and departmental meetings
  • Responsible for assimilating information from observations (i.e. patient needs, safety factors and maintenance requirements)
  • Demonstrates respect and courtesy to patients and visitors and maintains positive working relationships with hospital staff
  • Organizes time to account for work load and priority
  • Maintains ethical conduct and keep confidential personal and medical information about patients

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the EVS department Technicians and Specialists fulfilling their respective tasks in a timely and sanitary fashion
  • Responsible for upkeep and cleaning of the floors, Patient & Visitor areas, Patient discharge rooms, carpeting, windows, walls, ceilings, transporting soiled textiles and trash, and associated equipment
  • Maintains the hospital in a sanitary and attractive condition while overseeing the productive tasks of those working within the EVS department
  • Assures that patient rooms, upon discharge, are cleaned and sanitized per policy, in a timely manner
  • Become the go-to person for EVS issues 2nd & 3rd shifts
  • Vacuums, spot cleans and extracts carpeting
  • Uses cleaning supplies and disinfectants appropriately and in the correct ratio
  • Wet mops, buffs and refinishes floors
  • Makes sure that windows, walls and ceilings are clean
  • Oversees that lighting fixtures and outer surfaces of vents are kept clean and free of lint and dust
  • Changes or has changed cubicle curtains and drapes as appropriate
  • Picks up and/or oversees trash from centralized collection points are transported to trash compactor
  • Transports soiled textiles to loading dock for pickup
  • Returns empty tip-off dumpsters and waste transport carts to 5th floor
  • Collects recyclables and transports to recycling compactor
  • Responsible for waste transport carts and equipment is returned to clean and sanitary appearance for the next shift
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Assists in the selection and evaluation of supplies and equipment
  • Assists the EVS manager in the scheduling of employees
  • Assists the EVS manager in the evaluation of employees
