About The Position

The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate aids in maintaining a high quality standard of housekeeping by performing cleaning functions in assigned areas, following specific methods to provide patients, visitors, and staff with a sanitary, orderly, and safe patient care environment. EVS Associates help prevent cross-contamination, control bacteria and odor, and sustain acceptable aseptic conditions. They may also assist with moves, recycling, supply delivery, and the removal of trash and biohazard waste. Responsibilities

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Establishes and maintains clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations.
  • Handle the disposal of environmental Contaminants such as: batteries, thermometers (mercury), and needles.
  • Keep biohazard food and loading area safe and clean of debris.
  • Maintains equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, other equipment, and supply closets to give the hospital a professional appearance.
  • Must comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Follows hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene.
  • Completes and maintains all carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Observes safety precautions when pushing equipment.
  • Reports faulty mechanical, structural or electrical problem in accordance with safety policy creating an environment of safety.
  • Utilizes wet floor signs to prevent slippage by patients, employees, and visitors in accordance with safety policy.
  • Performs duties in compliance with policy and safety practices.
  • Converses with patients and visitors using scripting to establish dialogue and extend every possible courtesy.
  • Demonstrates high standards of conduct in the work environment to make Jefferson the choice for patients and employees.
  • Assist with the moving of furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups by request of the supervisor and/or staff.
  • Respond to pages or phone calls in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
