The Environmental Services (EVS) Associate aids in maintaining a high-quality standard of housekeeping. This includes performing cleaning functions in assigned areas while following assigned schedules and specific methods to provide patients, visitors, and staff with a sanitary, orderly, and safe patient care environment. EVS Associates aid in prevention of cross contamination, controlling bacteria, odor, and sustaining acceptable aseptic conditions. They may assist with moves, recycling, delivery of supplies, and the removal of trash and biohazard waste. The role involves interacting with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. It requires establishing and maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned work areas by following departmental policies and procedures. Proper disposal of biohazards according to EPA and OSHA codes and regulations is essential, as is handling the disposal of environmental contaminants such as batteries, thermometers (mercury), and needles, while keeping the biohazard food and loading area safe and clean of debris. The associate must maintain equipment, clean carts, buckets, floor machines, other equipment, and supply closets to give the hospital a professional appearance. Compliance with established personal protective equipment requirements is necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances. Following hospital/departmental policy on hand hygiene is also required. The role includes completing and maintaining all carpet and hard surface flooring in accordance with departmental procedures. Observing safety precautions when pushing equipment and reporting faulty mechanical, structural or electrical problems in accordance with safety policy is crucial for creating an environment of safety. Utilizing wet floor signs to prevent slippage by patients, employees, and visitors in accordance with safety policy is also a responsibility. The associate will converse with patients and visitors using scripting to establish dialogue and extend every possible courtesy, demonstrating high standards of conduct in the work environment. Assistance with the moving of furniture, equipment, supplies, recycling, and set-ups may be requested by the supervisor and/or staff. Responding to pages or phone calls in a timely fashion and performing other duties as assigned are also part of the role.
