About The Position

The Student Center Operations Associate supports the daily operations, customer service functions, and facility readiness of the University of the District of Columbia Student Center. This position assists in maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, guests, and community partners. The Operations Associate serves as a front-line operational support team member responsible for assisting with event preparation, facility oversight, building access, room readiness, customer support, and coordination with custodial, facilities, and event management staff. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the Student Center operates efficiently and provides a positive campus experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in facility operations, customer service, event support, student affairs, hospitality, or related operational environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to lift, move, and arrange furniture and equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education, student unions, campus operations, or event management.
  • Familiarity with event scheduling systems such as 25Live.
  • Basic knowledge of AV equipment and operational troubleshooting.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operational readiness of the Student Center, including inspections of public areas, meeting spaces, lounges, and event venues.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs to identify maintenance, safety, cleanliness, or operational concerns and report issues appropriately.
  • Support opening and closing procedures for the Student Center and assigned spaces.
  • Monitor room conditions, furniture placement, signage, and overall facility presentation.
  • Coordinate with Facilities, custodial teams, and maintenance personnel regarding operational needs and service requests.
  • Assist with event setup, breakdown, and room transitions for meetings, conferences, student activities, and special events.
  • Ensure event spaces are properly prepared according to approved layouts and operational requirements.
  • Provide operational support during events, including troubleshooting minor facility or technology concerns.
  • Support event managers and scheduling staff in maintaining accurate room readiness and timely setup execution.
  • Serve as a professional and welcoming representative of the Student Center.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, visitors, and vendors with questions, directions, and operational support needs.
  • Address customer concerns in a timely and professional manner and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Support front desk operations and monitor facility activity to ensure compliance with Student Center policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with University safety standards, emergency procedures, and accessibility guidelines.
  • Report incidents, accidents, facility concerns, or suspicious activity to supervisors and Public Safety as required.
  • Support emergency response procedures, including evacuations and building incident coordination.
  • Maintain operational logs, setup checklists, and incident reports.
  • Assist with inventory management for operational supplies, furniture, and equipment.
  • Participate in staff meetings, operational trainings, and professional development opportunities.
