About The Position

The Second Step, based in Newton, MA, provides free, trauma-informed services for survivors of domestic violence throughout Greater Boston and beyond. They are dedicated to ending the cycle of abuse with wraparound support, including safety planning, legal services, counseling, housing stabilization, support groups, and community education. These services help survivors heal and thrive while raising awareness to prevent abuse and build healthier communities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including planning and executing fundraising events.
  • Experience using a donor CRM.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet required deadlines.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor, flexibility, and desire to work collaboratively.
  • Experience and comfort with Microsoft Office programs.

  • CORI (Criminal Offender Record Inquiry) check following the first interview.
  • Reliable car/transportation as role requires ability to travel to events and meetings. Mileage and parking costs are reimbursed per organizational policy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute fundraising events.
  • Maintain accurate development systems, including donor database operations (Salesforce).
  • Coordinate the production and distribution of fundraising appeals and printed assets.
  • Support corporate and foundation partnerships by securing sponsorships, developing grant proposals, preparing reports, and participating in funder site visits.
  • Manage events and appeals calendars.
  • Coordinate production of all print projects, including fall and spring appeals, event invitations, Valentine Card mailing, impact reports, and other materials.
  • Liaise with vendors, including graphic designer and printer, to ensure that we meet timelines and adhere to budgets.
  • Manage special events, including: Annual spring fundraiser, Celebrating Success; Boston Marathon (typically 1 runner); Fall Donor Appreciation Event; Holiday gift card drive; Occasional 3rd party fundraisers.
  • Process and record financial contributions and in-kind donations in Salesforce, ensuring accurate donor records and compliance with organizational gift processing procedures.
  • Generate reports and mailing lists in Salesforce in support of the Development Team.
  • Maintain email distribution lists within Constant Contact to support fundraising appeals and donor communications.
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for Salesforce and Givebutter (donation software), working with external consultants to resolve issues, optimize workflows, and support fundraising operations.
  • Utilize Salesforce CRM to manage and update donor records and track interactions.
  • Create and update Salesforce records to capture relevant communications and research.
  • Maintain inventory of development office supplies and branded materials, including stationery, printed materials, and event collateral and coordinate reordering to support fundraising and donor engagement activities.
  • Maintain and update donor collateral, ensuring informational packets, brochures, and other donor-facing materials are current and readily available for donor meetings, events, and community outreach.
  • Manage Corporate partners to deepen The Second Step's partnership with institutional funders, including soliciting support for event sponsorships and corporate grant opportunities, and ensuring recognition and stewardship of corporate partners.
  • Research and pursue new corporate partnerships.
  • Write and submit compelling grant proposals and reports for a portfolio of 5-6 Foundation partners, to be determined with Chief Development Officer, meeting required guidelines and deadlines for submission.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors and Chief Operating Officer to gather necessary information and data for grant proposals and reports.
  • Participate in occasional grant site visits. Facilitate scheduling of grant site visits and prepare briefing documents for staff attending.
  • Utilize Salesforce to create and update grant Opportunities and Deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team to prioritize potential donors for engagement.
  • Work closely with program staff to stay informed about The Second Step’s services and impact.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current with trends and best practices in fundraising.
  • Represent The Second Step at community events or networking opportunities to expand visibility and build new relationships.
  • Other duties as determined with supervisor.
