About The Position

The Event Technology Specialist is a critical member of the Special Events & Event Services team, responsible for delivering top-tier technical support (audio, visual, lighting, and digital) for events across campus. From high-profile presidential addresses to pop-up gatherings in spaces never meant to hold a projector, this position will ensure a seamless technology experience for event guests and planners. This role requires a blend of sharp technical problem-solving, proactive thinking, and a reassuring, calm presence under pressure, and a solution-oriented mindset.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience working with event technology support
  • Proven experience managing live event audio (mixing, mic placement, frequency management) and basic stage/ambient lighting.
  • Strong diagnostic skills for video routing, aspect ratios, and adapting content to various screen types and environments.
  • Familiarity with Zoom/Zoom Webinar and an understanding of hybrid event workflows.
  • A strong sense of ownership and pride in executing a flawless event.
  • The ability to make lightning-fast decisions when technical anomalies arise, acting as a source of calm for nervous clients and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly regarding VIP preferences and speaker needs.
  • Must be able to lift and transport A/V equipment (up to [40/50] lbs).
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as dictated by the campus event calendar.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary technical lead for campus events, managing soundboards, microphones, wireless audio systems, and lighting configurations.
  • Manage in-event content projection and display on permanently installed screens.
  • Design and deploy creative, temporary technical solutions for spaces not traditionally outfitted for A/V.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the designated Event Lead to manage timelines, cues, and transitions, ensuring the program runs flawlessly.
  • Anticipate speaker and VIP needs proactively and respond quickly to requests by leadership.
  • Actively evaluate event outcomes and propose strategic adjustments to our overall technology support approach to continuously elevate the campus event experience.
  • Partner alongside the Associate Director for Digital Events and the Digital Events Fellow to provide support as needed for select virtual and hybrid events.
  • Utilize a solid foundational knowledge of Zoom Operations (breakout rooms, webinar settings, spotlighting, and audio/video routing) to assist with digital programming.
