About The Position

As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, we host more than 500 events each year and welcomes hundreds of thousands of global attendees to premier conferences, trade shows, banquets and more. The Vancouver Convention Centre is hiring an Event Technician on a Casual basis. Looking for flexible work that fits around your current schedule? Requirements

  • High school certification or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-year experience in the event industry or skilled trades
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and similar business software
  • Strong work ethic and great customer service skills
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills including ability to follow instructions and direction
  • Maintain a safety sensitive environment, proactively identifying safety concerns, and manage/report accordingly
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as well the ability to work effectively in a team environment, with tight deadlines
  • Must be available to work various shifts including mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Only candidates eligible to work full time in Canada will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • LPEC (Live Performance Electrical Certification) preferred or must be able to obtain within 8 months of start date
  • Customer service experience dealing directly with clients is an asset
  • Valid forklift and scissor lift certification are an asset
  • Interest in the event and customer service industry is an asset
  • Interest in a skilled trades career is an asset; electrical training and hours can be counted towards Live Performance Entertainment Certificate (LPEC) practical work experience

Responsibilities

  • Work individually and as part of a team assisting the technicians with electrical and plumbing installations for various events
  • Collect, sort, and restock electrical, compressed air, and plumbing equipment
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas to a high standard
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory list of tools and equipment
  • Install basic electrical, compressed air, and plumbing services (under supervision)
  • Work within tight deadlines and under pressure to complete requirements safely and to standards
  • Adhere to all work safety regulations and practices and maintain a safe working environment
  • Work closely with Event Technicians to support the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of event services
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs by yourself and up to 110 lbs with the assistance of a 2nd person
  • Assist with light administrative duties as needed

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $27.07 + 8% on top in lieu of vacation.
