About The Position

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is hiring part-time, year-round Event Hosts for the 2026-2027 Goldenball Youth Basketball season. Event Hosts will monitor basketball games at various locations throughout the city, creating a welcoming atmosphere, engaging with guests, providing customer service, and serving as a resource for PP&R information. Responsibilities include maintaining clean facilities, monitoring space usage, addressing safety concerns, upholding the PP&R code of conduct, communicating with supervisors, and completing necessary paperwork. Training includes a Saturday meeting in November and an on-site court training in December covering game day expectations, setup, league guidelines, and equipment. Sports League Staff are expected to provide a safe game environment and lead professionally, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and enthusiasm as positive role models. The Saturday Youth Basketball Season runs from January 9, 2027, to mid-March 2027. This is a casual, part-time position with flexible hours that may include days, evenings, weekends, or holidays, with no guarantee of weekly hours. The job is open for an extended period with no set interview or hiring dates; applicants will be contacted as positions become available.

Requirements

  • Must be able to travel from site to site of the assigned area (Lead Attendant role).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor basketball (Goldenball) games in locations throughout the city.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Engage with park and facility guests.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Serve as a resource for PP&R information.
  • Maintain clean facilities and/or park spaces.
  • Monitor use of space and needs of guests.
  • Be proactive in addressing potential safety concerns.
  • Uphold the PP&R code of conduct.
  • Communicate with supervisors, rangers, and security under established guidelines.
  • Monitor participation and complete needed paperwork and record keeping.
  • Facilitate event set-up and clean-up.
  • Physically move equipment from space to space.
  • Set up game clock.
  • Greet teams and spectators.
  • Sign in coaches and referees.
  • Read Spectator Pledge prior to each game.
  • Work independently to monitor use of space and needs of guests.
  • Provide support and direction to Event Hosts (Lead Attendant role).
  • Be familiar with game site set up and game readiness procedures (Lead Attendant role).
  • Fill in or train an Event Host at a game site at any given time (Lead Attendant role).
  • Re-stock Event Host with supplies (Lead Attendant role).
  • Provide breaks and/or lunch breaks within the assigned area of gyms (Lead Attendant role).
  • Handle difficult people or game time situations on occasion (Lead Attendant role).
